Cross-stitched Christmas Stockings
These stockings are Charles Ross patterns and were all stitched in the 80s. I made Gordon’s stocking first, then he cross stitched all the rest — I sewed them together. It’s funny — the decorative alphabet letters provided in the booklet are all upper case. Elliott’s name was too long to fit in the space, so I had to draft some lower case letters.
Poor Emily had to wait until she was five before she finally got her real stocking (in the interim she made do with a ballerina stocking). Fortunately, I was able to find the girl pattern and I had enough of the original lining fabric and trim to finish Emily’s stocking.
Now I would like to make a similar stocking for Emily’s boyfriend, Aaron, and am looking for another Victorian Charles Ross stocking pattern with the name David. If I mention it here, maybe Jan will find one for me — she’s really good at that.

Those are really beautiful! I will keep an eye out, but why do you want to make Aaron a stocking with David on it?

Those are SO beautiful – they’re so detailed! You did a fabulous job on Elliot’s name.
My mom made hubby and I crocheted stockings 18 years ago – we still use them. She never made any for my boys, I wonder why? I’ll have to ask her. Maybe because I could sew by then and made them Dr. Suess ones. Which they’re a little old for by now….

These are so sweet — personalized stockings are a wonderful keepsake when the kids get older. My brother and I love ours, they were knitted by the mother of the lady who babysat us when we were really little. Unfortunately, my brother left his at a girlfriend’s home and when they broke up she refused to give it back. He was pretty upset over that, as the stocking and the woman (whom he always called “Nan Warren”). So we asked our neighbour to knit a new one for him. He was pleased about it, but of course it’s not quite the same. I bet your two would feel the same if they ever lost the stockings you and their father made for them. It’s funny how we become so attached to ‘things’ because someone special made it or gifted it.

These are beautiful. My wife made the Mother, Father, and one Daughter back in the eighties. Unfortunately, by the time our second daughter arrived, my wife had lost the patterns. My daughter is now 17 and still doesn’t have a matching stocking. Can you or someone else please tell me where to purchase a “daughter” pattern?

WOW! Those stockings are BEAUTIFUL! You and Gordon make a great team! That’s really special having something like that made by your mom and dad.
I have some cross stitch stocking patterns from the 80’s (I was a Paula Vaughn devotee). I’ll look at them just in case, but I am pretty sure they are not by the same person. I never made them. I ended up making an altogether different kind of stocking for two kids and sadly I’m two behind. The little ones have store bought stockings, so their goodies are never as good. HA!
