Here are two more of the darling patterns from the 1948 Simplicity Needlework Catalog. The puppy dogs and kitty cats pattern is going to be tricky to draft, but I’m going to try. I love the idea of embroidering sheets as well as pillowcases for a toddler, although I’m not sure I could make those scallops on the “Sleep Tight” Sheets. My embroidery stitch repertoire is limited to a few stitches — I need more practice.
Aw, sweet! The group of sleeping puppies is adorable. I like scalloped edges on vintage linens, I think it looks both dainty and boldly classic.
I love the pillowcases, especially the birds! I also love that there are designs on both sides!
Hi Bunny & Jan — I’m glad you like the designs — I have lots more to share from this great catalog.
Jan — I think the design on the left was meant to be for a sheet, and the one on the right for a pillowcase. I guess nobody embroiders sheets anymore, but I think it’s a cute idea. Of course, you could put the second design on the other side of the pillowcase — I never thought of that, but it’s a good idea.
Maybe we should bring back embroidering on sheets. I love the lamb patterns.
