Vintage-Inspired Apron – #22

Posted on May 24, 2011July 28, 2015 by Martha

This is the last apron I’m planning on making for the shower, that is unless Emily decides to invite more friends.  I have been hoarding this vintage fabric for a long time, and always thought it would be perfect for an apron.  It’s a never-washed Everglaze chintz with the most adorable tulip border; it just doesn’t get any better than this.

There is enough tulip fabric to make another apron, so I didn’t want to use it for the sash.  To make the binding and sash,  I managed to find a small piece of the green diagonal plaid left over from a quilt binding.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough to face the sash, so I had to use a scrap of a reproduction floral.  I never throw away scraps — ever.

Now that the aprons are done, I’ll be starting a new project for the shower (a craft activity for the guests).  Hopefully I’ll have something to photograph by the end of the week.

    Martha,
All of these aprons are beautiful. Your guests are so lucky. My daughter is also getting married this fall and I am so looking forward to all of the activities. It is so rewarding to have raised a wonderful young woman and to see her starting out on a new journey with a man who makes her so happy.

Best wishes to your lovely daughter and her young man. They look very happy.

These were so fun to view. I’ll miss seeing them, but I’m sure they will be appreciated by the recipients!

Oh my, how beautiful! I love the plaid with that floral, and the floral on the back of the sashing. I’m sad seeing all your apron creations come to an end – I could watch you make new ones forever, although I’m quite sure you’re happy to have the last one done! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

You must require that everyone agree to be photographed before they pick an apron! We want to see them all at once!

I’m gonna miss seeing a beautiful new apron almost every day. I’ve never known anyone to do such a project for shower guests before and it is a very thoughtful and special thing indeed. I’ve been so inspired by not only your creativity but by the very idea of making the shower so special with these aprons. It gives new meaning to the term “labor of love”!! Can’t wait to see the craft project you are working on and gee, I wish you lived across the street from me. I’d be over “borrowing sugar” all the time! 🙂

Gorgeous! Absolutely perfect for spring. It makes me want to don a pair of cute Dutch wooden shoes and go walking through the tulip fields (which strange as it sounds is indeed a compliment!).

The tulips look so real! It is beautiful, Martha! It would be lovely to see all the guests draped in their favorite aprons. It is such a heartwarming gesture, your guests will be touched!
I’ll miss seeing these pretty aprons though.

I love these aprons! They are so beautiful and each one is prettier than the next. This entire wedding ought to be the lead article in the next “Martha Stewart Living,” if you ask me.
